Arabic OCR Applications
Arabic OCR converts combinations of Arabic & Hebrew scripts into editable formats. ReadIRIS was the first to develop optical character recognition to identify Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi characters on the PC platform. Unfortunately, Apple versions of ReadIRIS currently do not support Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi scripts.

Farsi OCR are less common than Arabic or Hebrew OCR. Farsi scripts are recognized by three OCR families now these are IRIS ReadIRIS, Abbyy FineReader, and Kofax OmniPage.
After implementation of Tesseract OCR engine into Simple Software products like SimpleIndex and SimpleView have an ability to work with Arabic scripts.
What is OCR?
When you scan a document that has text on it, the scanner simply takes a picture of the page and saves it as an image. Text saved in an image cannot be edited or searched, so the data it contains is useless to other software applications. In order to transform this information into an editable format that you can search, copy, and modify without retyping it manually, you need Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software.
OCR software comes in desktop applications for personal use, batch scanning and server based OCR for businesses, and enterprise data capture applications for things like invoice processing, forms processing and hand-print recognition.
